Dave Bautista’s New Movie Can Be The Perfect Replacement For His Two Lost Franchises

Summary

  • Bautista’s departure from Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy has left him seeking a new major movie franchise.
  • The Killer’s Game, featuring Bautista and Klementieff, has the potential to launch a brand-new cinematic franchise.
  • The action-comedy premise of the film sets up the potential for sequels, offering Bautista the chance to lead a unique franchise.

With Dave Bautista exiting two major movie franchises, his upcoming film could act as the perfect replacement. After leaving the world of professional wrestling to pursue acting, Bautista has continued to grow as a performer over the last decade, becoming a box office star in the process. Alongside proving his skills, Bautista has been part of some massive movies, but after departing his two most lucrative film series, the actor is in search of a new major franchise. Thankfully, his upcoming film, The Killer’s Game, has plenty of potential and could launch a brand-new cinematic universe.

The action movie will focus on Bautista’s character trying to survive several assassination attempts after putting a hit out on himself. After being wrongfully diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, Bautista’s character is unable to cancel the contract, meaning he has to fight off several hitmen to keep him and his wife alive. The Killer’s Game will include plenty of comedy elements, and with Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff reuniting in the movie after their fantastic MCU outing, the film looks incredibly promising. The Killer’s Game even possesses some John Wick similarities, meaning it may end up replacing Bautista’s biggest franchises.

Dave Bautista Has Left His Two Biggest Franchises, Dune & Guardians Of The Galaxy

Bautista’s Recent Movie Departures Leaves Him Without A Major Franchise

While Bautista has been part of some incredible franchises, he has left both Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy in the past year. Dune: Part Two is the highest-grossing movie of the year so far, and Bautista played a substantial role in the film, but his character was killed off, meaning he won’t return for the next installment. The Dune franchise has grown massively over the course of its two movies and Bautista has featured in both, but his character’s fate confirms he won’t be back, and he looks unlikely to return to Guardians of the Galaxy either.

Just like Dune 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 was a box office hit, becoming the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2023. Bautista’s role as Drax was a huge part of all three films, and he even appeared in several Avengers films, but his time in the MCU looks like it has come to an end. With Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn, moving to DC, the franchise looks unlikely to continue. While some characters will inevitably return in other Marvel projects, Bautista has been vocal about being done with the MCU, leaving him without a major ongoing franchise.

The Killer’s Game Could Give Dave Bautista A New Franchise

Although Bautista is currently without a major franchise, The Killer’s Game could help replace Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy. The comedy-action premise is the perfect way to get the best out of Bautista, and the overall plot seems like it could set up further sequels. As long as Bautista and Klementieff’s characters survive, The Killer’s Game could easily have another film based on more assassins being sent after the protagonist, with Ben Kingsley, Terry Crews, Scott Adkins, and Drew McIntyre being some of the exciting names hunting Bautista’s Joe Flood in the first installment.

Dave Bautista & Pom Klementieff’s New Movie Perfectly Reverses Their Guardians Of The Galaxy Roles

Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff proved to be a hilarious duo in Guardians of the Galaxy, but their new movie perfectly reverses these roles.

If the movie leans into its comedy, it could play on the ridiculousness of so many hitmen coming after Flood, and this could be the overall premise for years to come. The Killer’s Game may not be as big as Bautista’s previous franchises, but it would give him something he can be the star of that has a unique feel. Bautista and Klementieff’s chemistry can definitely carry multiple films, and this sets up a compelling final showdown if their characters finally fight one another, proving that The Killer’s Game has all the right ingredients to become the actor’s next franchise.
